Porthminster Beach is a lovely cresecent shaped beach with golden sand and amazing views across to Godfrey Lighthouse (the inspiration for Virginia Wolf’s famous novel “To the Lighthouse”).
The award-winning beach is just a short walk from St Ives town centre and is a firm family favourite as the sheltered water make it perfect for swimming or paddle boarding. There is a 18 hole mini golf course which will keep the kids happy if they get bored of the beach.
Parking: There is a car park overlooking the beach, but it can get very busy. Try using the park and ride at St Erth and enjoy the scenic branch line that runs right into St Ives and a short stroll down to the beach.
Lifeguard cover from the mid-May until the end of September.
Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except between mid-May and end of September (10am – 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place.
